Poetry Therapy for Connection and Change
Where your story finds its voice—and your voice finds its power.
“ … language and how we use language determines how we act, and how we act then determines our lives and other people’s lives.”
—Ntozake Shange
What participants say:
“The group allowed me to connect with amazing women. … I learned new ways to think about challenges and new ways to encourage myself.”
—TJ, Working While Black
If you find yourself saying things like:
“My team is burnt out and needs a reset.”
“I want to understand myself and make some changes in my life.”
“We’ve had a big loss and could use a space to grieve and heal.”
“My partner and I could use help with our relationship."
… then poetry-centered work can speak to your needs.
Ready to explore what poetry therapy can open for you or your group?
Whether it is individual support, a multi-week series, or a custom workshop, we can determine the approach that best suits you. Sessions can be virtual, in person in our midtown Manhattan offices, or at your location. Contact me to explore possibilities. Let’s see what we can create together.
Poetry therapy offers a pathway to clarity, courage, and change. Through literature, lyrics, guided writing, and deep reflection, we slow down enough to notice the stories we carry—both the ones that sustain us and the ones asking to be rewritten.
Poetry therapy allows for a sense of safety: metaphor, imagery, and alternative voices create space between you and your experiences. It invites self-awareness, strengthens resilience, and builds community, supporting you as you connect with others, reflect on relationships and the systems we navigate, and consider change.
Offered in individual sessions, 6-week journeys and custom workshops, each sessions is grounded in cultural awareness and designed to honor individual stories and collective histories.
Who is poetry therapy for?
Your Poetry Therapist
As a licensed clinician, author and Certified Poetry Therapist, Robin D. Stone, LMHC-D, believes deeply in the power of story to heal and transform. The founder of Muse & Grace Mental Health Counseling Services, Robin blends evidence-based psychotherapy including expressive arts using literature, lyrics, and guided writing to support mental, emotional, and relational well-being.
Robin specializes in working with women and people of color, with a particular focus on Black women, exploring leadership and empowerment in the face of oppressive systems. Her poetry-therapy practice creates space for people to reflect, listen to messages from the body, and safely approach and explore experiences through metaphor, imagery, and narrative.
Robin’s work supports individuals, couples, families, groups, and corporate partners, with virtual and in-person options available.
Most recently, she facilitated Working While Black, a series for Black women navigating white workplaces, and co-facilitated African Wisdom, American Resilience: Radical Self-Care for Black Journalists at the 2025 National Association of Black Journalists conference in Cleveland.
